What is style aesthetic?

Have you ever glanced at someone and go, "Dayum, there goes a hype beast!" Or something more like, "That lady looks so sophisticated!" "Hey, can't help but love your casual outfit," or, "My, this outfit feels too formal for my liking."

You might not have realized it then, but this was what you did: you literally figured out that person's style aesthetic at a glance!

But it wasn't just the shoe, nor the tee alone, that created that look. It was the entire outfit, from the size and color down to the accessories, that made you go, "Certainly, this lady's a baddie."

Style aesthetics refer to the overall look and feel of an outfit. It's the combination of clothing, fabrics, color, hairdo, accessories, and even makeup, that make up a person's look.

Style aesthetics can be anything from formal and minimalist to baddie and streetwear. It is that unmistakable vibe you create with your overall outfit.

So it's not just the shirt or the hairstyle that defines your perception of that person. It's everything you're wearing as a whole that defines how people perceive you.

And yes, everyone's got their style aesthetic — you're not excluded.

Types of style aesthetic

There are myriads of fashion aesthetics, including:

  • Sophisticated
  • Minimalist
  • Baddie
  • Soft girl
  • Hypebeast
  • Boho
  • Luxe
  • Casual
  • Formal
  • Streetwear
  • Classic
  • Rustic
  • Vintage
  • Grunge
  • Retro vintage
  • Edgy
  • Arty
  • Black Barbie
  • Soft core
  • Cottagecore
  • Y2k
  • Normcore
  • Gothic
  • Casual chic
  • Bling

And this's not even half of it. There is so much more, some more popular than others. Of course, you most definitely have been seeing the baddie hashtag all over Instagram, but most likely not "gamer because it's not as common as the baddie aesthetic."

Style aesthetics may also be placed into broad categories. And, depending on who you ask, the category will be different.

For example, they may be grouped into:

  1. Hypebeast
  2. Contemporary
  3. Impressive, and
  4. Street style

Or;

  1. Minimalist
  2. Understated
  3. Effortless
  4. Basic
  5. Capsule wardrobe (essential clothing)
  6. Beige aesthetics

Or;

  1. Dressy
  2. Formal
  3. Fancy
  4. Upscale

Whatever the case, any vibe you perceive from a person's outfit must fall into a category. But now that you're here, here's the million-dollar question: what's your style aesthetic?

What is my aesthetic?

The thing is, anyone can don a different aesthetic every day. You can go streetwear today and crush baddie style tomorrow.

But most people are subconsciously inclined to choose an aesthetic fitting to their personality — or style, if you will.

And the earlier you figure out your aesthetic, the easier your fashion decisions and so many other decor choices will become. Of course, your style can influence how you decorate your space too! Talk about choices of color and textures.

So, how do you identify your style aesthetic?

Your style aesthetic is the fashion style that suits you the most. It will generally conform to your unique personality, and you may subconsciously find yourself leaning towards such type of clothing.

Are you one for flirty, youthful looks with glam makeup? You're most likely a baddie.

Do you find yourself drawn to flashy, luxurious jewelry and expensive clothing? Then, sophisticated/luxe may just be it.

The trick is to not choose an aesthetic; rather, to know your aesthetic is to identify what you've been subconsciously vibing.

So, if you've been screaming "I've got nothing to wear!!!" even while staring at a wardrobe full of beauties, it might just be that you've been stocking your closet with trendy pieces that do not align with your aesthetic.
